About Tryouts

Tryouts run for two consecutive days.  Athletes are encouraged to attend Both Days.  Parents are encouraged to stay and watch tryouts from a distance as long as they do not distract athletes.  If a parent does distract their athlete or another they will be asked to leave the tryout location.  Athletes are expected to arrive 30 min early to check in and familiarize themselves to the tryout area.  This will help ease any nerves and relax the athletes.  Registration for tryouts will be done online.  Walk ins will be accepted however, tryouts will begin and end on time!  Any Walk ins should arrive a minimum of an hour before tryouts begin.  Tryouts are for U11 athletes and older.  Athletes that are U10 and below are able to attend tryouts for the experience and to meet ACE staff.

What is evaluated at tryouts:
Players will be assessed on the following:
  • Technical - ball control / receive / pass / dribble / shoot 
  • Tactical - problem solving / on and off the ball movement
  • Physical - speed / strength / agility  
  • Psychological - personal traits / ability to work hard / supporting teammates  / confidence / courage / etc.

Athletes have a total of 33 possible points from all areas.  

Athletes that recieve 33-23 will form our top team.  Athletes that recieve 22-12 our second team and scores 11-0  our third team.  Depending on numbers less or more then 3 teams at each level may result.

What to bring to tryouts:
  • Water bottle
  • Pumped up soccer ball
  • Shin guards

(Please wear shorts and tee shirt)

What to expect Day 1
  • Warm up - running and stretching/juggling/movement with the ball
  • GK's will work out with field players first ( GK's will be evaluated on field play)
    • GK's will then work with a specialized keeper coach
  • Possession Activities (4 v 2, 6 v 3, etc.)
  • 2 v 2 and/or 4 v 4 (all ages)
  • 7 v 7 and /or 8 v 8 (U11 and U12)
  • 9 v 9 and/or 11 v 11 (U13 and above)
  • Running with and without the ball
  • Cool down/wrap up
What to expect Day 2

  • A brief discussion with athletes
